The U.S.
Department of State recently issued a Travel Alert, warning of
increased violence and drug-related conflicts taking place in
several border towns of Mexico. Intensified criminal activity is in
Tijuana, Ciudad Juarez, and the City of Chihuahua.
Tourist areas such
as Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel
and other popular destinations in Mexico are thousands of miles from
these problem areas and have been unaffected. The Mexico
Tourism Board has stated that none of the crimes have involved
tourists.
Keep in mind this
has been an on going problem for Mexico for many years. This is not
the only country in which there are problems. The media does not
give all the facts. Nor do not they tell how resorts are handling
this and how many tourists have been affected. The US also has many
issues but this does not deter visitors from traveling here.
Our recommendation
is that where ever you travel you should always be aware of your
surroundings, exercise common sense, stay in resort areas, and do
excursions through the resorts.
Our tour suppliers
and the Mexico Tourism Board keeps us informed of what is going on
in Mexico. We have never had any situations for our client that have
traveled to Mexico involving these reported drug problem or
kidnappings. We have included a map of the region for you to know
the distances from these problem areas.
Thank you
